JOSLYN MODEL 1864 CARBINE

#12XXX. Cal.52 Rimfire (56-56 Spencer). Standard 22" Round barrel. Gun retains about 80% opf the original finish. Butt plate is U.S. stamped. Stock is in excellent condition with a few handling marks. As the stock shows no military inspector markis, it has probably been sold on the civilian market. Of an estimated production of about 12.500, a total of 4.500 where sold in private and 8.000 to the military. Action perfect, near mint bore. All markings correct. Has a numer 8H3 stamped on the stock above the saddle ring bar, meaning unknown. Made in 1864! The Joslyn proved to be one of the more widely used Civil War carbines. A good solid carbine in an excellent + condition. After the Civil War, many of these carbines were sold to the French government for service in the French-Prussian war of 1870-1871.
