GALLAGER MODEL 1865 CARBINE
#217XX. Cal. Spencer 56-52RF. Standard 22 1/4" Barrel retains about 70% of original blue, balance turning patina. Frame has 40% blue left. Buttstock has an iron patch box, a saddle ring bar and sling ring on the left side. Stock has a few dings and some handling and storage marks, otherwise in a fine condition. This is the second, final model made early 1865 and delivered to the U.S. army in May 1865. Has all the correct military inspector marks, proving military acceptance. These carbines were widely used by the Union cavalry in the West. With a total production of about 5.000 guns, this is a rare item. Fine condition. Cartridge shown for information purposes only.
