COLT MODEL 1887 LIGHTNING SMALL FRAME RIFLE
#41XXX. Cal. 22 Short or 22 Long Rimfire. Standard 24" Octagonal Barrel. Magazine holds 15 Short RF or 16 Long RF Black Powder cartridges. Half magazine is standard. Retaining at least 90% of the original blue overall, the hammer with pratically all of it"s colour case hardening. Standard address with the 1883, 1885, 1886 and 1887 patents. Standard front and rear sight. Mechanically perfect. Bore is very fine with strong rifling. Total production of 89.912 Rifles from 1887 to 1904. All Rifles were made for use with Blacpowder cartridges. It was designed for firing .22 short and .22 long rimfire cartridges in such a way that it also worked with "both cartridge types" in the magazine. The C.L.M.R 22 Short was developed in 1857 for the first Smith & Wesson revolver, the original loading was a 29 or 30 grain lead bullet and 4 grains of black powder and the C.L.M.R. 22 Long dating back to 1871, was loaded with a 29 grain bullet and 5 grains of black powder, The Rifle was manufactured in 1899.
